To kick off the new punks section, (after booting out the mods) we have a quick poll to see who were top dogs. Sorry for any bands left off but space is limited, let us know who else should be on here though. My own faves were Tenpole Tudor (sorry Lee), we folowed them all over the place until they got Stiffed.

If I had to vote for the best punk band at the bridge it would have to be the Rejects. You seem to have left them out. I cant vote for Erazerhead as that wouldnt be right and we were not as good as the others anyway, but get rid of crappy crass (old hippies trying to be trendy) and reinstate the local lads. If not then I guess it will have to be Tenpole as well. Lee.

Done. Crass only played one gig at the Bridge anyway and most of the regulars couldn't get in because they filled the place with all their flight cases.

I went for CockSParrer as they are still my favourite band but if they hadn't been in the poll I would have had a hard job deciding between the Cockney Rejects, UK Subs and Tenpole Tudor.

It would have to be Tenpole Tudor for me for two reasons: Firstly, they were different and, secondly, I once auditioned (unsuccessfully) for the band and found Eddie to be a top bloke!

You're dead right about Eddie being a top bloke, I've met him quite a few times and he's always been an absolute diamond! We booked him to play in an Ipswich pub once and without anyone knowing he taught the landlords kids to accompany him on one of his songs with tambourines and a triangle, the look on the landlords face when all his kids trooped on stage was a picture

The persona of Eddie you see on TV was very much him in real life I found. No ego as such, just a very charismatic and enthusiastic guy. He'd rung me personally in response to my guitarist available ad in the Melody Maker and then sent me a cassette of some songs to audition with. I called him back later and said that although I liking the music I didn't think I'd be a good fit for the band. Eddie wasn't having any of it, insisting that I come down to the studio in any case. Well I couldn't say no and ended up having a very enjoyable couple of hours with them. As I mentioned, it didn't work out in the end but Eddie was very complimentary and encouraging all the time. Yes, top geezer.
Cheers, Tony.

The Tickets were great and our local band too, but Johns heart was never in it. He didnt really like punk and was too good a musician to be in a three chord punk band. What everyone has been saying about Eddie Tenpole is true. He is one of the most enthusiastic, encouraging people I have ever met. When they got their first record deal he phoned me up and told me that there was a suprise on the single for me. When I got my copy I couldnt see it at first but they had scratched "Alright Lee" in the vinyl around the label. It is on every copy of Real Fun. Much the same as a porky prime cut. When we began releasing our own records I tried to dedicate each one to somebody in the same way as I knew how much it had meant to me. By the way the FREAK IS DEAD. Shame he didnt go 20 years ago. Lee.

Hello Terry, what happened to Carol? She always gave us good write ups. Mick is turning into a werewolf! This Rejects gig must have been their last at the pub and it was the only one I missed. Yvonne had just had Beccy so its the end of Jan 82. I think Blitz were the support that night so maybe its one of them? Hope you are all well, Lee.
