Met up last night with the other side of the Bridge house,
in 1977 we had all our regular bands playing for us,R.D.B Salt. Chris Thompson,Screemer,Grand Hotel Smiler,Jackie Lynton,Gerry McAvoy, and many more.
then a new wave of music started to  emerged with the punks,O!,Goths,Skins,So as a music venue we had to give the new breed a chance, and the first bands to arrive, are always the local bands, guys who had been customers of the pub,who had got there vibes from music being played there.
So it was nice to be invited to a reunion,to meet up again with some of the guys,The Cockney Reject laid the party on,Jeff and Mick,Geggus, from Custom House E16 being mine hosts.also there ,Hoxton Tom of the 4 Skins, Darren Wasted Youths Bass Player and founded member of the band. Gary Bushell,a best selling Author these days, thats just a outline of the night,,thats the trouble with time, there were many there that i knew, but putting names to faces, forget it. Barney, Spanner, H and loads of other people. We had a  really good night, at the White Swan and Cookoo,in Wapping,a nice pub

Have a look in Bridge house news,One of our favourite sons,Paul Ballance,Warm Jets Dog Watch, to name just 2 of the bands he was the front man for,in fact our first 7" single was by the Warm Jets, which feature Paul on vocals ,singing A side Sticky Jack, written by Paul and guitarist magik Hrybowitz,B side written by Paul Jeffries(no longer with us)and Milton Reames James, who with Colin Barton produced the single.
this was a live recording which is still for sale,on our web site.Paul Ballance has mastered the didgital, system and looks to be going it to the big time with his new Mbop ,have a look.

well the new wavers, are coming to the front, if they want there own reunion,i need more information.from any bands or band members, who want to play,Son Darren is keen,to put a night together,Lee Dury is back from his time in France and he has been doing a few Jams out there,so he is tuned in,We got Dell on Drums,(i think).I am sure Rocco would be there ,The ideal thing would be a Wasted Youth reunion, and a few guests to play after there set,But there has been no reaction from the others ,Ken,Andy ,Nic,were invited to the book launch and reunion, well apart from not saying ya or nay, they never arrived.so maybe they hae finished playing completely, big sham they were such a tallented band.So lets hear from you all to see if it is worth trying,or should we just forget it T.M

Yeah, we used go a lot places to see them, I recall Little Steve up in the rafters of the Fulham Greyhound one night, Steve Cox was another in the crowd I think.

Searching the recordings of the live tapes from the bridge house, all the recording were done from the old stage were we had 1 mike at each end on the bar facing the stage. On a Cock Sparrer night the opening  band was SMAK.Rocco Barkers very first band.he only played a couple of time before joining Wasted Youth,we think this was there first gig.Jeff has cleaned the tape up,and i spoke to Rocco about it,so we may well be putting it on the forum ,it was very punky but sounds good ,if you are into punk music,T/M

Terry,
Count me in for a DEFINATE for the Drums - wouldn't miss it for the world!
As for the band SMAK - It was Rocco's first band. My friend Ronnie Briton was the singer.
Ronnie later went onto sing for the Harlot's and the Persian Flowers with Nic and myself.

regards to all

Talking about Roccos first band 'Smak' has reminded me of our 'Corvettes' first gig.
We supported Smak at the Iron Bridge in 78, just down the road from the other and better Bridge! I knew Rocco well as he lived about 40 yards from me in East Ham and we just turned up on the night, asked politely! and did three songs.
The next gig came soon after, supporting Ken & Andys tickets at the Tidal Basin Tavern. We nearly didnt make it out alive as the local crowd down there didnt realise we were locals too and decided to lynch us. I think the Tickets knew the score as they left after their set but we hung around till the end and Darren M, Martin J and myself were lucky to leave with just cuts and bruises! If we had played up on the west ham thing as Cocksparrer did we would have been ok I guess, but you live and learn.
Next came our first gig at the Bridge House. We would be supporting the UK Subs who were in turn supporting the Bumpers. It was on the old, upstairs stage and as I entered from the right carrying two pints of beer I tripped on the power cables gaffered to the floor, went flying and one pint of beer went all over the Bumpers mixing desk! We did our set of 4 songs and were chuffed when Charlie Harper told us to keep at it.
The Subs went on next and the sound began to get bad. Lots of stopping and starting. The band were getting pissed off as the beer soaked down into the desk! They only did about half of their set when it all went fizz bang.
The Bumpers were unable to play that night and began to ask where the singer of the 1st band had gone? The Murphs done me a favour that night as they all denied knowing anything about me. I think the Bumpers rang up the pub on a few occasions after that trying to get some compo from someone but no one knew anything!
Anyone else remember their first gig?
